I love big dogs!  I miss my dogs, since they left with my ex.  She and I were into Chesepeake Bay Retriever rescue for several years.  Over the years, we had 7 of our own, all but one were rescues from our local Humane Society.  They are such a wonderful breed, but not for everyone, as they are so strong willed, hard headed and smart as all get out!  When my ex and I split up, our three girls went with her.  It was a situation where it would have been hard for me to keep my Ginger, along with unfair to seperate her from the other two.  One day I will have another Chessie or maybe a Rhodesian Ridgeback.  I had a female Ridgie who I had to put down when she was 12 years old.  Anyhow, hats off to the Big Dogs!

Ya know, I had recently read about someone with their dog with a similar story to yours...about the leg plate...I hope you were able to find the information there...

we have two chocolate labs that are about a year and a half old.  life with them is always an adventure.  elliott and emmett are their names.  they go to a friend's house every day while we work.  he spoils them rotten - like they aren't spoiled at home...  they dig places to lay in the mulch under our bushes to stay cool in the summer.  they like to "re-plant" the flowers and they also love to rearrange the wood pile on the side of the house.

the dogs that wait for the alarm reminded me of them - they wait until they hear it and then they lay their head on the bed - one on each side.  we live on a corner lot and all the neighbors and kids love to play with them.

i'll have to check out dogster.com - elliott was born with a deformed leg - the main bone in his left leg is not attached to a growth plate on either end.

when we first got them we lived in an apartment that didn't allow dogs.  we had so much fun taking them out in the dark to potty and trying not to get caught.

Golden retriever and English Springer Spaniel here Cool

My golden is an old lady with a bad case of Old Lady Syndrome, but the pup is very happy no matter that his housemate gives him alien teeth on occassion.

We have an account at Dogster.com, if anyone else has heard of the site - the forums are good for gleaning information and personal experiences...

hi everyone!  i'm amanda.  i currently dont have any dogs (which makes me very sad), but my gf and i have been looking.  our friend's mom breeds husky/wolf mixes and we were thinking about getting one.  they are HUGE and so beautiful!  back home in california i had a few dogs growing up.  they included Toby (a golden retriever/saint bernard mix), Fluffy (a cocker spaniel), Dusty (something big and white and extra hairy), and Charlie (german shepherd mix).  I miss having a dog and my gf has never had one before so she's really excited to finally get one.

My puppy is almost a year old. I rescued her at 7 weeks. She is a mix of german shepherd, bull mastiff, and maybe chihuahua?, (she only weighs in at 50#). Strong as an ox though. Her coat is solid brindle. She looks like a miniature brindle german shepherd.

I love the image of the giant toddler!! LOL

We have 2 black Lab mixes...not sure what with.  I rescued our girls at 9 weeks and they are coming up on 9 years this summer.  One of my favorite times of day is right after the alarm has gone off in the morning.  As I hit the snooze and lay back down, both of them rest chins on the bed and give us "the eyes".  They know we can't resist and the pups don't like to be kept waiting!

It is nice to see a big dog group started, I miss having a my dogs.  I have always had St. Bernards in my life, but at the moment do not live a life that is conducive to having one.  Thank goodness I work in veterinary medicine and can have a chance to see dogs any time I want, so I still get my "dog fix".

Perhaps here at the dog park, folks could tell a funny story about their big dog.  The one I always get a kick out of was when I had my first Saint.  His name was Bryan and he weighed in at 139 pounds.  One year he got an infection and had to be started on antibiotics.  The vet prescribed him some which I took down to the local pharmacy.  I didn't think much about Byran's name at the time, but I guess having a "human" name really messed up the pharmacist.  When I went back to get the script he asked about Bryan, but thought he was my son, not my dog.  So when I told him he weighed 139 pounds and was only 3 1/2 years old he was a little shocked!  The look on the guys face was priceless!!  Needless to say he was relieved that I did not have a toddler who weighed that much.

Have a great day everyone!

Re: come join the dog park - Please don't breed or buy!

UniDagger, I spend several hours each week volunteering at my local Humane Society.  I see hundreds of wonderful dogs and cats that desperately need homes!  They live in small 4' x 5' kennels, just waiting for someone to give them a chance.  We have personnally rescued three dogs who are amazing, lovable, obiedent, and loyal animals.  There are hundreds of thousands of dogs that are killed each year at local shelters because there are not enough families willing to give them a chance.  You are wonderful for taking in the two you have.  Please don't be part of the problem by breeding or buying animals.  For every one you breed or buy, another one is put to sleep.  We can all be a part of the solution to the pet overpopulation problem.

We have two labs.  A male yellow lab, Collin,  he is 8, and a female black lab, Bailey, she is 4.   They are very active.

Hi all. I have two dogs, Jessie and Dagger. Jessie is a little over a year old. Not sure exactly as she just showed up one day at my brothers farm. Lots of people drop their dogs off out there where no one can see them :( She looks like a border collie-husky-or-soemthing. lol. Beautiful and sweet tho. But an escape artist.

Dagger is a black and tan husky-mix (father unknown) and is about 4 months old. He's nice to cats outside, but my indoor cats he wants to chase...course they run because they havent acclimated to him. Jessie they are used to. The girls wont play, but Sharky loves to play with Jessie. I had more time to have them get used to each other. (I like my pets to all get along.)

I'm wanting to start breeding a dog. Theres several breeds that I love...ok most. Im not esp fond of most of the small ones. Ive come across Vizslas....they look and sound great. Anyone here have or been around one?

Sherry
